There are so many cancer options available to breast cancer patients. For example, just consider the surgical options. Most breast cancer patients and their physicians will have to choose between different surgical interventions.

A common decision that has to be made is whether to choose lumpectomy or mastectomy. There are certain factors that may make one option better than the other. However, some women who are candidates for lumpectomy may choose mastectomy perhaps because of the fear of local recurrence. There is an understandable belief that removing the entire breast always reduces this risk.
